Meteorite Crashes and Such

No, I did not see, hear, feel, or even know of the meteorite crash that happened in Russia last week....until I read the Facebook statuses from friends across the globe in America. Thank God for my number one news resource. I was curious about this story...so I checked some online news sources besides Facebook. Here is what I found:

"How I Meteored Your Motheland"

Watch it.
And I'd be lying if I said there wasn't some truth to what Mr. Stewart has reported.

Mmmmmmmm, nice cold water, on a nice cold day in Russia. Sound refreshing? If by refreshing we mean the water was painfully freezing while sending me into an overdramatic panic fit....then yes. Quite "refreshing". Anyway, I jumped into this water for a charity where all the proceeds went to the homeless in Moscow.  So many people who did this plunge before me made it look absolutely effortless.  Some swam all the way to the end and back! Do you see the wooden railing toward the front of this picture? I made it about 5 inches beyond that. Once I was submerged up to my chin, I ungracefully freaked out, and was out of the water faster than I made the insane decision to move to Russia.

According to one of my outspoken 2nd graders, here is the world. The big green clump toward the top is Russia, the big clump underneath is Germany....far to the right is America....and over to the left is France.
We have got some work to do with this one.

In 3rd grade we had a unit on inventions and discoveries. I thought it most appropriate to learn about the invention of the toilet.
I had the students draw a picture and write a sentence about what we would do if we did not have toilets. Here is one that I got:
In case you can't read Russian kid writing.... this child wrote "I think pipol go to forest and go to toylet"
Yes, yes this assignment was mostly for my own amusement.

And now I will leave you with a couple video clips with my number one favorite child in Russia.  This is the little boy I have been tutoring since October.  When we started lessons, he could barely say "how are you"...but he impresses me every week with how much English he has retained from our previous lessons! Though he can be quite rambunctious...he still tries hard and I'm always so proud of him! Here we are reviewing preposition flashcards:

Have a fabulous weekend!
